Many Boy Scouts In World Today

There are more members in the scouts in the world today than at any time in its history. This was announced by the Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan, speaking at the annual meeting of the Council of the Boy Scouts Association.

He said the 1949. “census” just completed shows a membership of 473,216. This is an increase of 27,014 on last year and an increase of ,842 on 1933, the previous highest figure. An increase of 36 on last year brings the number of Scout groups to 10,138. What the Chief Scout referred to as the “rqost encouraging sign of all . . . a satisfactory proof to us that happiness is to be found in working for others” is the very substantial increase in the number of adult leaders (Scouters). These now total 41,484, an increase of 4,705 on last year’s figures.
