CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL WON BY PAROA A The 1949 basketball .season at Whakatane' ended on. Saturday with the playing of the championship final between Paroa A and Paroa B, the former team winning by a substantial margin, and a knockout tournament, which produced some good basketball. In the final of the A grade Olympics beat Paroa A 10 to eight and the B grade was won by Redwings, who defeated Taneatua in a very close game, 2—l. Olympics also won both the marching and the prize for the tidiest uniforms, the Mcßaes being second in this latter competition. In the field events Paroa A were first with The Stewarts second. Altogether seven teams took part in the tournament.
