GRAND DAY AT HUNT CLUB POINT TO POINT

Gloriously fine weather on Saturday assured the success of the Rangitaiki Ward Opotiki/ Hunt Club’s point to point meeting at Te Teko, and the crowd had a great day. Entries for some of the races were a bit light, but most events provided keen contests. Unfortunately the Maori steeplechase for the Pahipoto Cup had to be cancelled for want of entries, the only starter being nominated by the Cup’'S holder, Mr R. Parks, who retained the trophy without a contest. Mr J. P. Thompson’s Ben Battle won the open steeplechase in easy style from Mr R. Gordon’s Findout, and the same owners provided the winner and second in the lightweight steeples in which Mr Thompson’s Iron Bark led Mr Gordon’s Sanger past the post. Ben Battle finished his day’s outing with another win the heavyweight huner’s steeplechase. The big competition event of the day, the open jump, went to Mr K. Sisam’s Star, which also came second to Mr S. Eiver’s Silver Link in the hunter’s jump. Detailed results:—
