WOOL LEVY IS TO BE REDUCED IN NEW ZEALAND
Wellington, Tuesday.
The levy from which the New Zealand Wool Board derives its revenue is to be reduced in the coming season from 2s 6d to 2s a bale. The deputy-chairman of the Board, Mr W. Horrobin, told the recent meeting of the Board’s Electoral Committee in Wellington that this was possible because of the satisfactory state of ( the Board’s finances, due in part to the reduction of the exchange rate last year. Although the Board’s expenditure on its work at home and overseas was increasing, the reduction of the levy would mean that the Board would collect about £20,000 less than if it had remained at 2s 6d a bale. Mr P. S. Plummer (Central Hawkes’ Bay), a member of the Electoral Committee, said that farmers would, appreciate the reduction made by the Board, even though it would make no immediate difference to their finances, as the levy was included in the contributory charge of 2£ per cent on wool sold.
