YOUNG RIDERS 9 GOOD SHOWING AT PONY RALLY

Progress of the Whakatane District Pony Club since it started, last autumn was clearly demonstrated at the first combined rally held at , Luxton’s paddock, Awakeri, on Saturday. All five branches entered teams, and competition for the Ballw: tup (won by White Pine Bush 2 points ahead of Whakatane) was keen. Over 50 riders competed, and there was a fair public attendance. Jumping events showed a need for much more schooling e: denies, but the young riders showed a degree of confidence and control of - “green” horses thajt must have given their instructors considerable satisfaction. Naturally; the experienced riders scooped the pool in the - seniors, but there is ample material for . much closer contests lated in the season.

Presenting the Cup to Mrs Geo. Howard, who accepted it on behalf of the White Pine branch, the president of the Club, Mr IST. Beid, congratulated the riders and instructors on the show they had put

up, and expressed the club’s indebtedness to the judges (Dr Adah Blomfield, Auckland, and -Mr E. G. Winters, Tauranga) and to Mr Luxton for the use of the ground.
