Changes In Party Line Numbers On Whakatane Exchange

The new telephone directory is being issued in Whakatane.

" Coincidental with the issue of the new book, there will be a change in a few party-line numbers. This is necessary because some opera-< tors’ positions in the Exchange are heavily overloaded and the change of numbers will distribute the load more evenly and will result in an improved service to subscribers. Only line numbers will be changed. The letter indicators and rings will remain unaltered. The lines affected are: 83 will change to 583, 26 tc 586, 88 to 588, 89 to 589, 120 to 520, 127 to 527, 128 to 528, 243 to 543, 244 to 544. The change over will be made this week.

Although it is desi'rabJe to form the habit of using the new numbers, there will be no confusion if in the transition stage,, the old number is used, as the Exchange operators will plug into the new number even if the old number is asked for.
