Roman Reservoirs To Increase Farm Acreage Of Egypt
Underground reservoirs built in the Western Desert by the Romans in the days when North Africa was the granary of Europe are to b$ used again to increase the acreage of Egypt’s farmlands. These reservoirs stretch in a chain from the Western Egyptian frontier to Cyrenaica, some miles inland from the mid-Mediterranean. During the war, they were used by both the Allied and Axis forces in their struggle for supremacy. Now, they are being repaired by the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture to help make the useless sand fertile.
