INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS
Sir, —A stirring article appeared in the Herald (15/8/49) under the heading of “Reply to Critics of Britain.” The two last paragraphs state that a new frame of mind is needed. The writer says: That a change in relationship between the old trial nations of Europe and the new industrial giant in the new world (Wall Street) has been in progress for the last 30 years and no nation has benefited, not even the American people; even now they are in the throes of a crisis. The old story, poverty midst plenty! This is fetching Socialism home to the American citizen; as is being dealt out to the British, and is a rebound from the Marshall Plan. As the writer states: What is necessary for the restoration of full economic health to Britain (and her Dominions) , is nothing as simple as the mere supersession of one party by another. It requires the reshaping of one national frame of mind that governs all parties (through the body politic). This task is not impossible and has already made some progress (in Alberta). The facts of the case are so urgent and so compelling that once they are ailo'vyed to emerge clearly, a level-headed people like the British will certainly pay heed to them. Note the call for urgent action, it is not too late to throw out the Bureaucrats. Yours etc., W. BRADSHAW.
