Heavy Traffic Licences With the eight heavy traffic licences valued at £23 5s 6d collected last, month a total of 295 have so far been issued in the county for the 1949/50 year. Control of Ragwort
Financial assistance to the total sum of £4,400 has been granted the council to help in the control of ragwort. A grant of £SOO has been made for the Ruatoki area.
Tarawera Bridge Work Tenders are now being called for the replacing of spiking pieces on the Tarawera Bridge on the RailwayRoad West. It is expected that a certain amount of decking will also have to be replaced. Stanley Road Survey A deviation is at present being surveyed on the northern end of Stanley Road. This - will eliminate several bad corners and will reduce the length of this section of road by approximately half. Several other corners will also be improved. A £1 for £1 subsidy is available from the Government for this work. Bluett’s Bridge, Ohope The western abutment ‘of Bluett’s Bridge situated at the eastern end of Ohope, which was recently taken over from the Opotiki County, has been scoured out and temporary work is necessary to keep the bridge open for traffic. Murupara Road Deviation A deviation of about 30 chains has been, constructed near the Pokairoa Junction on the Te TekoMurupara road. This new deviation has eliminated several corners and also by-passed the acute Pokairoa intersection. Pokairoa traffic now .-join the Murupara road at either end of the deviation on an improved angle.
