Australian Fullback Hurt In Accident

When he fell from a back landing of his hotel at about 1.30 a.m. Sunday, Brian Piper, fullback with the Australian rugby team received a compound fracture of the right upper arm and concussion.

Apparently, having returned from the dance, he left his own room to look for one of his team mates and stumbled off the end of the landing, either tripping on the top of the fire escape steps or missing them altogether, and fell to the concrete yard 15 feet below. He was unconscious when taken to the hospital in the ambulance, but had regained consciousness and seemed fairly cheerful later in the day when visited by the team manager, Mr Walden, who said his condition was satisfactory.

Naturally, Piper’s football is over for this season, and the loss to the team of its star goal kicker and only specialist fullback will be seriously felt. ,
