They are to continue their tour to Gisborne on Monday by these vehicles., Five members of the team toured New Zealand in 1946 while the ma.i. ager, Mr R. Walden, was vice captain of the Australian side which was over in this country in 1935. The assistant manager is Mr W. H. Ceirutti, who was a Wallaby m New Zealand in 1923, 1931 and 1934. The team captain is T. Allan who was in New Zealand three years ago. The team received a civic welcome at the Commercial Hotel, where it will be staying during its Say of Plenty visit, by the Mayor of Whakatane, Mr B. S. Barry, and the president of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, Mr W. S. Henderson, and other officials of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union. This team was the second international side to play at 'Whakatane in the last few years, Mr Barry said in his welcome. The last was also an Australian one, a touring Aus„ tralian hockey' team. He welcomed them to the town and the district, and expressed the hope that their stay would be a pleasant ode. It was a red letter day for the Bay of Plenty because it was some 26 years since the. last overseas rugby team had played at Whakatane, Mr Henderson remarked. He wished the team all the success from Sunday on and hoped they would have a minor setback co_ morrow.

In reply the manager of the team, Mr R. Walden, said the w'allabios had come to play attractive football and Would endeavour to play fast, open rugby tomorrow. He was hoping that the-side would continue to have the same luck it had had on Wednesday. Some members of the team had a short practice at Whakatane Field soon after their arrival yesterday but there is to be a full practice of the team at the ground‘at 10.30 am. today.
