Research In Wool
Long-term research work is of particular importance to the woolgrowing industry though it is difficult to evaluate exactly because it achieves few, if any, spectacular results.
Making this point in its annual report, the New Zealand Wool Board pays a tribute to the work being done at the laboratory of the New Zealand Woollen Mills Research Association, at Otago University, under Professor F. G. Roper.
The work being done at Dunedin is a reflection of the much more extensive research being carried out by wool interests in many overseas countries. New Zealand growers have a direct interest in "the work of the Dunedin laboratory because through the Wool Board they help to maintain it.
The report also mentions the two research buirsaries offered annually by the Wool Board to enable New Zealand scientists to' undertake research in sheep and wool problems in overseas countries. This year the bursaries were awarded to Mr B. P. Philpott and Mr D. G. Edgar.
