Members’ Day At Otakiri W.I.
A very bright afternoon was spent at the Otakiri Woman’s Institute August meeting the day being set aside for entertainment by members. Mrs Carr presided over a good attendance. Remits for the bi-annual council meeting were discussed and Mrs Ker and Mrs Hutton were appointed as delegates. The Link letter was Tead by Mrs D. G. Campbell. The roll call, “The impression of your husband at first meeting,” was very well answered. Mrs Carr then handed over proceedings to Mrs Hutton, who acted as president on behalf of the members, assisted by Mrs Fulford as secretary, both completing their task in a most efficient manner. Mrs Ker opened the programme with a talk on the “advantages of sending children to school, also its disadvantages,” touching on quite a number of important points. Two humorous sketches by Mrs Peck were very well acted, two songs were sung by Mrs Hutton and, concluding the programme, Mrs Hutton gave a humorous newspaper report of the meeting, which certainly proved very true to its title. The day’s competition winners were: Vegetable, Mrs Peck 1, Mrs Carr 2, Miss Murray 3; best single flower, Mrs Tulford 1, Mrs Peck 2, Mrs Butler 3; best double flower, Miss J. Murray 1, Mrs Whalley 2, Mrs Fulford 3; steamed pudding, Mrs Winters 1, Mrs Peck 2; a small boy’s summer shirt, Mrs Peck 1; a novelty necklace, Mrs Peck 1.
