Control Of Wharves At Whakatane
The Whakatane branch of the N.Z. Waterside Workers’ Union has advised the Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, by telegram that its members had dissociated themselves from the policy of the national union regarding restricted hours of work. The Minister said that this was the second port to follow the sound example set by the Timaru branch and that he had today signed an order restoring the commission form of control to members at Whakatane and the benefits which went with it, including the payment of ?. guaranteed wage.
