W.D.F.F. Birthday Members of the Awakeri Young Farmers’ Club and the Country Girls’ Club were present at the twentieth birthday of the Awakeri Women’s Division of Federated Farmers last week. There was a large attendance at the party and even at the end of the evening there was still much of the record home-made supper left.
More Power Wanted At the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party the secretary reported that representations had been made to the Minister on the power cuts, with a request that consideration be given to the application of the Bay of Plenty Power Board for an additional quota to enable it to make further power available to the Whakatane . Borough. Whitebait Still Scarce A falling off in the amount, of whitebait running in the Eastern Bay of Plenty rivers has been noticed by the early season fishermen during the past week. Very poor catches have been caught in . the Whakatane River and only moderate catches in the Rangitaiki River. Over at Kutarere very little of the fish has been seen. Experts in the district consider that it will be some time yet before the fish are running in adequate quantities.
