Sheep Industry Commission Report Disappoints Farmers
For the time spent by the Commission on investigations, the report of the Sheep Industry Commission could not be regarded.,-as other than disappointing, according to a statement by Federated Farmers.
The report’s greatest shortcoming, says the statement, was that it completely ignored the main problem, the relationship of costs and prices. While the Commission had avoided dealing with the question in high production costs it was doubtful if New Zealand as a whole could continue to do so, “The set-up of the proposed Sheep Industry Board includes two Government nominees,” the statement continues. “There is great value in having a representative of the Government take equal place with elected representatives in speaking for the people. “What a grat advantage to the Government and —to be fair—to the whole Dominion, if the Government had two appointees on the body representing the watersiders!”
