Boxing
Entries from all over the Bay of Plenty and as far away as Auckland have been received by the Whakatane Boxing Association for its tournament of the year at the Whakatane Winter Show Building tomorrow night. About a dozen boys from the Whakatane Boxing Club have entered and have been bjjMfcjfct training for some The two Whakatane fought at Mt. Maunganui a night ago, I. McKenzie and G. Thomson, have both entered and in their case a big improvement is expected. Another Whakatane fighter, R. Jones, was to have fought but a chipped knuckle bone received while training, will not pass the doctor. * The tournament is to be one of \ the biggest yet held at Whakatane and some big bouts are planned. For the Whakatane Club, which has made remarkable progress this < season, this tournament amongst top flight boxers will give some indication as to the standard of the sport in this town.
