“Disciplined Revolution” In England
Mr Ernest Bevin, the Foreign Secretary, said at a Transport and General Workers’ Union festival at Bristol: “The nation is in process of a revolution in its economic life. “This revolution is being carried out without loss of a single life and almost without strikes.
“Great changes are going on _by a self-imposed, democratic, political discipline that is simply amazing.” Turning to international defence, he said: “If the West and other peace-loving nations get together and reach a complete understanding and co-ordinate their defence, there will be no war for hundreds of 3Pgrs. “I am Willing and so are the Government and the people of Britain willing for the Eastern countries to have the system they want but not at the expense of endeavouring to force it on us.”
