Music-Lovers Celebrate Chopin Year

“Chopin Year” is being celebrated by Chopin Committees all overPoland, and by Chopin-lovers in other countries.

Well known Polish pianists are playing Chopin for factory workers and peasants, and funds are being raised for Chopin Fellowships for music students. Film Polski, the State film enterprise, is producing Chopin historical features. The Frederic Chopin Institute has launched a competition among students all over Poland for the best essay on Chopin. Rudolf Nydhal, well known Swedish art collector and Chairman of the Swedish Musical Society, who has two original letters by Chopin to his friend and pupil, Guttman, has agreed to make them available for a special Chopin exhibition. The Polish Embassy and the Chopin Celebrations Committee in Rome organised a big Chopin concert in the Argentine Theatre, Rome. The Italian Prime Ministei', Signor de Gasperi and other Italian Ministers, the leader of the Italian Communist Party, Togliatti; the Chairman of the Italian Socialist Party, Pietro Nenni, and the diplomatic corps were present.

Chopin celebration concerts have been organised in other European capitals.
