Position Concerning Morgue Clarified By Hospital Chairman
Although the hospital mortuary is mainly for the bodies of patients who die in the institution, the Board had no objection to outside bodies being admitted to the morgue, but the laying out of such bodies is the responsibility of relatives and not the hospital staff, the chairman, Mr J. Mullins, said at the monthly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Hospital Board yesterday. The only bodies which the hospital would be responsible for were those of patients who had died in the hospital.
Where a body was. under the supervision of the' police it would be the responsibility of the police to attend to it. Mr Mullins said there was no need for a further morgue in the .town, but the people had to realise how far the hospital’s responsibility extended.
