WHAKATANE BOYS LOSE AT MT. MAUNGANUI

Boxing

The London-Hunt fight at the Mt Maunganui Boxing Tourney on Saturday proved to be the best bout of the evening. London used his straight left to very good advantage, but the speedy Auckland boy was too fast and out-manoeuvred him to gain a well-earned decision. The two Whakatane boys were defeated in their bouts. In the first round I. McKenzie was punching too slow, and inclined to let Wright lead. The next two rounds he moved faster, but couldn’t make up the leeway lost in the first round. He received a medal for the best loser. G. Thompson met tough B. Caverhill. Thompson boxed nicely. but Caverhill kept boring in on top of his man all the time. This was Caverhill’s second fight on the night.
