PRICES—AND PRICES
Sir, —I was interested to read in last Monday’s Beacon a list of meat prices for July. I am very pleased to have your list. While on prices it is a pity that something could not be done about the cost of other articles sold at Whakatane. Of all the towns I have been to this is surely the most expensive. Clothing, books, bottled beer and nearly everything in the town costs a few pence more. One needs only to go to Taneatua or Opotiki to see the difference in prices. The cost of living is high enough as it is without these little extras being added on. I would suggest that some of the so-called “leading powers” of the town look into the price position. That is, of course, if it does not affect them. Yours etc., OFTEN BITTEN.
