POWER CUTS

Sir, —It may interest you and your readers to know something of the power position in Wellington. I visited Wellington last week and stayed at two private homes, and called at several busin j s? houses. There did not appear to be any restrictions on the use of radiators which were in evidence everywhere. In the houses the radiators were used in the morning to warm rooms for the young children, and also in the evening before the fires were lit. Shop lighting was certainly diminished, but the bright Street lighting and under verandah lighting made window lighting unnecessary.

It may be that many of the Government Departments need to be kept warm, and also the members of Parliament, but I understand that Parliament Buildings are centrally heated.

People in Wellington have received one or two luke warm warnings about the excessive use of power, but no one there seems to take these warnings seriously. If power can be made available in Wellington to such an extent, why not in places growing at the rate Wha-( katane is at the present time? There are probably upwards of 15 houses in course of erection now, and this figure is virtually a continuing one. May your publicity and efforts on behalf of the community in the matter of electric power bring results.

Yours etc., “RESIDENT.”
