Fair Going At Rangitaiki Ward’s Fifth Hunt Meet

The Rangitaiki Ward Opotiki Hunt Club held the fifth meet of this season last Saturday at Opouriao. No kills resulted from the day’s hunt, possibly due to the wet condition of the ground. ' The going was fair and thei weather conditions good. Hounds cast off shortly after 11 o’clock on Mrs T. Santon’s farm and worked through Reid’s and Torrie’s properties and at C. Rawson’s place doubled back" and came out across the road to L. Richardson’s. Here a high double brush caused some exciting moments for some of the members.. Down on the river flats the going was heavy, and even though the pack moved slowly, working thoroughly up the river bank through Yeoman’s and Soutar’s farms, they were unable to pick up a scent Crossing the road again the Hunt worked through A. McGoug'an’s farm , and A. Tebbutt’s. Throughout the course the jumps were interesting and surprisingly free considering the w A condition of the ground. Tebbutt Brothers’ and J. Dunstan’s prouerties were hunted over and it was not until the hounds started to work over the high country that they gave tongue. Morning and afternoon tea was served at Mrs T. Santon’s residence.
