Development Of Poor Land About Rotorua Is To Be Discussed

Emphasis on the utilisation and development of poor land in the Bay of Plenty and with special reference to the pumice land about Rotorua is to be placed by the annual of the New Zealand Grassland Association to be held in Rotorua in November. One day is to be devoted entirely to the problems of pumice country including discussions on soil, afforestation and grassland problems. The restoration of native pastures in Marlborough will be reviewed and special attention focussed on the effect of the high-producing strains of grasses and clovers and heavy application of fertilisers on the well-being of stock in terms of health, wool and meat.

The conference will also discuss hill country problems, the chemical composition of pastures, the growth of clovers and the insects affecting pastures. Membership of the Grassland Association is open to anyone interested in the grasslands of New Zealand.
