BUSINESSMEN TO PROBE STATE HOUSE QUESTION
The suggestion that Whakatane should have its qwn State House Allocation Committee was discussed on Thursday night by the Chamber of Commerce, which handed the matter over to its executive for investigation and action. While there was' no downright opposition to the idea, there were no signs of over-anxiety on anyone’s part to get elected to such a committee if it does come into existence. The general feeling seemed to be that the job was one for a very public-spirited group of citizens prepared to face the undoubted unpleasantness of what \Vill no doubt be a difficult task.
However, in line with its past policy of investigating all possible ways of improving the accommodation position here, the Chamber instructed its executive to investigate the proposal and take what action it deems necessary when it has the needed information.
