A-A, A. .A. ***» POROPORO AND UNITED HAVE WINS

There were some surprises in the senior rugby competitions of the Whakatane Rugby Sub-Union after the games played at Whakatane Field were decided on Saturday. Paroa went down to a keen United team by 17 points to 6 while Poroporo had a fairly decisive win over Taneatua, the score being 15—0. In curtain raiser games United juniors had a win over Paroa by 11—3 while in a third grade representative game Rangitaiki 0 went down to Whakatane by 8 points. Packing together very solidly the United forwards hunted together m a style which kept Paroa fighting for much of the game. The match .was rather ragged although at times it swung from end to end in some exciting dashes. Weakened considerably by the absence pf some of their key players Taneatua were unable to hold the strong playing Poroporo side. Poroporo went in to the attack from the start and in some uninspiring movements had Taneatua fighting to keep them out for most of the game.
