Interesting Tauranga Compensation Claim

Last week a compensation claim of outstanding interest to land owners was heard at Tauranga by Mr Justice Stanton with' Mr Stace Bennett as assessor for the Tauranga Borough Council and Mr Richard Cobbe, Whakatane, assessor for the Munro Estate.

Land involved had been taken by the Borough for recreation purposes and the Munro Estate was offered £1450 for its interest. The court after a hearing lasting two days and extending to 10.45 p.m. on Friday night gave judgment for £3,500 plus 500 guineas* 3 to the Munro Estate, Counsel witnesses, and assessor, this sum to be paid by the Tauranga Borough Council. The land was valued by Mr Jones, Government Valuer for for Hawke’s Bay and late of Rotorua at £2,183 and Mr Chilcott, late Government Valuer for Auckland City, at £1945.
