Taneatua W.I. Sees How To Make Toys

A demonstration on soft toy making created much interest among members at the June meeting of the Taneatua Women’s Institute. Demonstrated by Mrs Merrie different toys were shown in the various stages of completion. The meeting was well attended with four new members being proposed. Mrs McDonald was elected parcels secretary and will arrange the packing and dispatch of parcels to the link in England. Mrs Butler and Mrs P. Anderson were appointed to take charge of sales tables.

For the Golden Thread Mrs McDonald spoke on the poetess Thora Stowell and read one of her poems.

A radio play by Mesdames K. Tebbutt, Gardner and R. McGougan was well received. A wall competition arranged by Mrs R. McGougan and incorporating the names of Irish songs, was won by Mrs Merrie and Mrs N. Hill equal. Competition results: — Best flower: Mrs K. Tebbutt 1, Mrs A. Tebbutt 2, Mrs McGougan 3; best vegetable, Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Butler 2; plum jam, Mrs Bennett 1, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs Downes 3; knitted cardigan, Mrs Torrie 1, Mrs Grey 2, Mrs K. Tebbutt 3.
