OPPOSITION FOR MR SULLIVAN AT ELECTION
Bay of Plenty Labour Party supporters are determined that Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., will not go back to Parliament unopposed, and to that end the Bay of Plenty Labour Representation Committee has selected a candidate and sent his name forward to Party headquarters for approval. The committee has also released for publication the appointment of Mr George E. King, of Edgecumbe, as electorate organiser for the coming campaign. Mr King spent a number of years working on farms, and later as a carpenter before he went overseas in 1941 for training as an air observer in Canada. Grounded on account of sickness after his graduation, he was posted to the administrative section of the R.A.F. and commissioned as Flying Control Of" ficer attached to the Coastal Command. In tha capacity he served in Scotland, other parts of the United Kingdom, North Africa and Italy. Upon demobilisation, Mr King bought a rehabilitation-financed farm at Edgecumbe and in four years has doubled its production to above the average for this area. He is an executive member of the Rangitaiki Plains branch of Federated, Farmers and a member of the Sub-Provincial executive of that body.
He is also president of the Rangitaiki Branch of the Labour Party and has spent 14 years in the Labour movement.
