Whakatane W.l.’s June Meeting*
The vice-president, Mrs Sims, presided over a good attendance (about 60 members) at the June meeting of the Whakatane Women’s Institute.
Business dealt mainly with entries for the W.I. Display Court at the forthcoming Winter Show. It was reported that, since the last meeting, two 221 b parcels of fat had been sent to the Link Institute, and the sum of £4 4s 10s collected from Leper boxes held by several members had been forwarded to the Mission to Lepers. Two representatives had attended a meeting of the Ladies’. Committee of A. and P. Society and their report was given.
The Display Court Trophy won by the Institute at the A. and P. Summer Show was on display. Reports were received from the Hall, Drama and Arts and Crafts sub-committees.
An interesting demonstration, the making of wood mops, was given by Mrs Print.
The roll call, Washing Day Hints, brought forth a number of excellent suggestions.
A sketch, “Over the Garden Wall” presented by Mesdames Angus and Grant provided a humorous interlude.
Competitions proved very popular, Mrs Larsen winning the Quiz, Mrs L. Carter the hot-water bag and Mrs Haultain the collection of laundry articles. Results of monthly competitions:—
Best-ironed embroidered tea cloth, Mrs Comer 1, Mrs Norman 2. Collection biscuits, Mrs Mortensen 1, Mrs Print 2. Collection foliage, Mrs Comer 1, Mrs Fennell 2.
