Cycle Racks Repairs to cycle racks have been carried out at Whakatane and all racks are now in good condition. New Mowers Satisfactory New Ranson Triplex mowers recently purchased by the Council have been used on the new Rugby grounds and have performed satisfactory.
Domain Rugby Fields A metalled road access from Domain Road to the new Whakatane Domain Rugby grounds has been constructed. A railed fence with gates to the fields has been erected. Hiilcrest Fire Connections
Subject to the approval of the Whakatane Fire Board three fire hose connections are to be made to the water pipe line on Hiilcrest. It is estimated that the cost of each connection will be about £l7. New Flood Pump
Apart from an automatic float switch control the installation of a flood pump at Douglas Street has been completed. Satisfactory trials under manual control have been given and the unit is now ready to handle flooding in that area. Removal of ’Phone Box
An application from the Post and Telegraph Department for approval to remove the public telephone box in the Strand by the N.Z. Road Services, to a new site by the Whakatane Hotel has been approved by the council.
Building Permits Applications for building permits showed a decided drop at Whakatane during May. A total of ten were issued for a value of £525.
None were for dwellings. Three were issued for garages, garages and workshops two, sheds one, fowl houses two an shed removals two.
