BASKETBALL RULES PLAYERS MUST KNOW THIS SEASON
(By “Goalie”)
As the opening of the basketball season in Whakatane is so late this year it is to be hoped that players generally will soon settle to some hard training and quickly gain form, especially those who aim at representative honours. Clubs should take particular note of the following rules which I think should make for smoother running of the weekly competition matches. They have been compiled by the Whakatane Basketball Association.
The annual subscription payable by each club is to be 1/- for each player registered with a minimum of 9/-, to be paid by June 25.
Residential Qualifications Without the permission of the Management Committee no player can take part in any match unless she has resided in the district of which her club is situated for at least three weeks before the match and can testify that she intends to reside and play in that team for the season.
Players can not transfer from one team to another team of the same club in the same grade during the season without the permission of the Management Committee. A team so offending must forfeit a match. If a player changes residence, permission must also be granted by the club which she is leaving and the player must have been a financial member of the club.
All players must be registered each season and no unregistered player can take part in any match. Teams playing an unregistered player must forfeit such matches. Requests for registration must be forwarded to the secretary at least two days before the registered player is entitled to play, such registration to be signed by the secretary of Club Council. Players’ Uniforms
All players must wear gym shoes, black stockings or sockettes or ones matching costumes. No jewellery must be worn and stockings must not be rolled. Gum must not be chewed on the field.
No club affiliated with this Association shall play any match other than those arranged by the Association without the permission of the Management Committee.
Games must commence at times arranged. No manager or coach or any outside person shall instruct a team during the progress of a match. The referee has the power to stop any match until such coaching or instruction ceases. In the event of it being persisted in the referee may order the abandonment of the match and in such a case report the matter to the Management Committee. Referees & Score Sheets Before commencing matches referees.must know the names of players being filled in by the respective captains on official team sheets. At the close of the game the referee will fill in the correct scores of the match, sign the sheet and hand it to the winning captain, who is to be responsible for sending in the result to the secretary within three days. All games will be played in accordance with the Rules of the N.Z. Basketball Association.
