LAND BALLOT FOR MAORI EXSERVICEMEN OKAREKA BLOCK, LAKE OKAREKA, ROTORUA' Two' or fnore sections, to be run jointly on wages with promise of allotment are available on the Okareka Block adjacent to, and just north of Lake Okareka, Rotorua, situated 7 miles from Rotorua. Applications are called for occupation, by two or more men on wages, with promises of economic sections if their performances are satisfactory over a period of not less than twelve months, from Maori ex-servicemen who are resident in, and graded ‘A’ for sheep farming for the South Auckland land district or the Waiariki Maori Land District. Applicants will need to be able to satisfy the Rotorua Farming SubCommittee that they have had sufficient experience in the type of country concerned, to handle successfully the Okareka Block. If more than the required applicants are received, who can qualify according to the previous para-, graph, the selection will be by ballot. Applicants will be required to appear before the Rotorua Farming Sub-Committee for determination of the qualifications to enter the ballot at 10.30 a.m. on • Friday, 10th June 1949. The ballot, if necessary, will take place directly thereafter. The description of the land is as follows:--Pt. Section 6 Block 2 Tarawera Subdivision, 1322 acres 2 roods 30 perches,mainly ploughable country, having natural fertility due to heavy covering of Rotomahana mud. 1100 acres in grass. Suitable for pastoral. Fattening when developed. Now carrying 1400 ewes, 1000 wethers, 220 cattle. Maori ex-servicemen with the qualifications may obtain further particulars of the section and the conditions of offering upon application to their nearest Rehabilitation Officer.
