How Was Marmalade Named?
How did marmalade get its name? —This delicacy was originally made from quinces, the Spanish name for which is mermelo, so the Spaniards called the substance ■ mermelade. When the mixture left its native shores and it was discovered that it could be made from other fruits, chiefly oranges, the original name was preserved.
