Gem-Studded Tomb Threatened By River

Emergency measures have been ordered to save the gem-studded tomb of the Mongul Emperor Jehangir near Lahore, from the snowswollen River Ravi, which recently changed its course. • Before the river reaches danger level, Sir Francis Mudie, Governor of West Punjab, has ordered a new channel to be cut to divert water, and barriers to be erected. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, the magnificent tomb holds the remains of the only Mongul Emperor buried in Pakistan. His real name was Salim but he adopted the name Jehangir (Conqueror of the World) when he succeeded his father Akbar the Great in 1605.
