MORE ENTRIES NEEDED FOR JERSEY OAKS

At the annual meeting of the South Bay of Plenty Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club Mr L. Berg reported that the first Bay of Plenty Jersey Oaks, which is a sweepstake conducted by the Te Puke Club, has at present £lls in hand. The second, conducted by the South Bay Club, is a £250 Oaks, but so far has only £9O in hand from approximately 60 entries. To make it a financial success at least 100 entries are needed. Mr Berg said he had secured an additional 12, and he appealed to members to enter as many animals as possible. The chairman, Mr W. R. Boon, backed up the appeal. It was resolved that the Club approve of a third Oaks to be conducted by the Tauranga Club; also that if the £250 Oaks does not turn out a financial success a sweepstake be adopted by the Tauranga Club.

It was resolved that the date of the annual bull sale be arranged as near the end of September as possible, and that entries and extended pedigrees must be in the hands of the auctioneers or the secretary (Mr C. Hope) not later than August 1. Judges & Associates

Mr N. Reid said he understood the Jersey Association was short of classifiers, judges and associate judges, and he suggested that the Club should recommend associate judges to be appointed by the Jersey Association. It was thereupon decided to recommend Mr L. Berg for appointment as a judge, and Messrs N. Reid, H. Hill, F. R. Looney and E. H. Hill as associate judges. It was further resolved that it be a recommendation to Bay of. Plenty Clubs to arrange to have associate judges officiating at their local A. and P. shows.

Mr Boon, in his presidential report, said the year had been most successful in every way, and the balance > sheet showed a credit balance of £l3B/2/4, an increase of £34/10/6 for the year.

Officers Elected President, Mr W. R. Boon; vicepresidents, Messrs N. Reid and J. E. Rae; committee, Messrs H. Hill, S. G. Ker, R. L. Macdonald and G. W. Mexted; auditor, Mr J. E. Mussett.
