Dr. and Mrs G. H. Maaka returned to Whakatane this week after a brief trip to Tolaga Bay. . 1 •

Mr D. Blomfield, Whakatane, - is at present paying a brief visit to Auckland.

Mr J. W. Robertson, of the Bank of Australasia, Whakatane, leaves on Monday to relieve for five weeks at the branch of the bank at Matamata.

Mr A. R. Knights, health inspector at Whakatane, and Mrs Knights returned recently from a brief tour of the North Island. ' -

Mrs A. W. Winstone, Whakatane, secretary of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Red Cross, returned today after attending the quarterly meeting of the New Zealand Red Cross executive committee at Wellington.

Dr. V. Armstrong has been appointed Scientific Liaison Officer in' America for the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and expects to leave New Zealand during July. The extensive scientific research experience of America > —in the Federal Organisations, the Universities, and the Industrial search Laboratories—will be studied by Dr. Armstrong, and at his office in Washington, D.C., he will be closely associated with the scientific liaison officers of Great Britain, Australia and Canada.
