County Supports Borough Lawn Cemetery Scheme

Although not making any definite decision, members of the Whakatane County Council were in favour of supporting a proposal of the Whakatane Borough Council to turn the Whakatane Hill Cemetery into a lawn cemetery, it was revealed at yesterday’s meeting of the County Council. The advantages of a lawn cemetery are a more attractive layout and easier maintenance.

Councillor A. F. McGopgan said he thought the scheme was a good one and deserved - support. The chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, agreed and pointed out that a lawn cemetery could be made into a park and would not take much looking after.

. After, further discussion it was decided to leave the matter until the next meeting.
