Whakatane Band Has Difficulty In Obtaining Uniforms

“We have found it a problem to get a full uniform and the band was compelled to go to the Cambridge Contest in navy trousers and white shirts,” the president, Mr A. J. Canning, told the annual meeting of the Whakatane Citizens’ Band when presenting his report. However, there were prospects of full uniforms arriving soon. Several performances were given during the year although many of the best players found it very hard to keep the band functioning, Mr Canning added. As a result the band attended the ’ Cambridge competition with only 20 players. This handicapped their performance but they competed well under the circumstances.

Mr Canning said that a class of 15' boys from the Whakatane District High School had been recruited and were to be taught the theory of music and the different instruments. Officers elected:—-
