NEW SEASON OPENS ON SATURDAY The 1949 season for' outdone basketball will open on Saturday at 1.i5 p.m. with a knock-out tournament to be held on the High School courts. ' !- •. Last year the Whakatane . Association won the Miriata for between Associations in the Bay of Plenty. This will, have to be. de- ‘ fended this season. Of :; tWQBepj teams sent to the Rotorua Tournament, one was runner-up in the B Section. It is hoped’ to do better this year. M In past shears all matches have been played at Whakatane, but this season the Association has. decided to play home and away games. In this way it is hoped to cater more for the social side; Another’innovation is the forming of a Referees' Association, and all those -willing; to be referees are asked to come along on Saturday or get in touch with the secretary, phone *297. Anyone interested in basketball and not associated with a club are also asked to come along on Saturday or phone the secretary.
