Water Level Gauges Damaged

, Water level gauges installed at the outlets to the Orini and Kopeopeo Canals, Whakatane, were interfered with and damaged sometime last week, probably Thursday. The gauges are used for determining the necessary drainage in the canals and are very valuable equipment.

When officers of the Department of Agriculture visited the sheds in v/hich the machines are installed on Friday morning they found the door lock had been smashed and serious damage done inside. Ore of the officers informed the Beacon that the damage has been done at a time when the readings were particularly important because of the extra water about in the last week.
