Empire Games Film The National Film Unit proposes to produce a 4000 ft. film of the Empire Games to be staged in Auckland next February, according to advice received by the Empire Games Organising Committee. Cost of production of the film is estimated at £4OOO. ’
Second Wicket Partnership By scoring 429 in a second wicket partnership for Cambridge against Essex, J. Dewes and G. Boggart established an English record for the second wicket last week. They needed only 27 more runs to claim a world record for the second wicket when the innings was closed.
Kiwi’s Leg Amputated One day last week a Waverley farmer found a young kiwi caught in his opossum trap. Its leg was broken and it was found necessary to amputate it, but the bird survived and was sent by bus to the game farm at Greenmeadows, Hawke’s Bay. This is the fifth kiwi sent from this district in the past year.
No Request Made No request had been made thus far by the British authorities for assistance by New Zealand in respect to the situation in Hong Kong, the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, stated when asked if the Government intended to despatch a warship or take similar action in view of the situation in the East.
“A Pleasure to Entertain” The hospitality extended to the New Zealand cricket team by English soccer officials was the subject of an appreciative letter received by the N.Z.F.A. from the manager of the cricket team, Mr J. H. Phillips. A letter from Mr J. De Mans, 'Dominion soccer representative in England said it was a pleasure to entertain the New Zealand cricketers.
