Ohope Institute Reviews Year’s Work

A large attendance of members welcomed Mesdames Withy and Caverhill who had made a special journey to review the year’s work and to answer questions somewhat puzzling to members at the last meeting of the Ohope Women’s Institute. Both gave very interesting addresses on how Institutes were first formed in the Bay of Plenty and their work over the years, they were very helpful with their knowledge of Institute work. Chief topic of discussion at the meeting was the appointing of a secretary, to replace the retiring secretary. As no member was willing to act, Mrs Thomason suggested that she relinquish the president’s chair to Mrs White and that she herself act as secretary, to this the meeting agreed. The prize for bottled fruit was donated by Mrs White, who also presented gifts to Mrs Sorenson, retiring president, Mrs Critchley, retiring secretary, and to Mrs Dickson a prize as winner of last year’s points for flowers and garden produce. Competitions: Bottled peaches, Mrs Thomason 1, Mrs Armstrong 2 and 3; best dahlia, Mrs Thomason 1. After a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mesdames Withy and Caverhill, afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames "Ker and Porter.
