Barnet Of Barns
(By John Buchan)
Disappointing to those of John Buchan’s admirers who were en-i thralled with the “Thirty-Nine Steps”, “Green Sleeves” etc. In this the action never seems to come to life, and though the hero is parted from his true love, lives in danger, meets fights and treachery and wins through, yet one’s pulse never quickens. It seems as if John Buchan needs must write once again of the Scotland he loved so well, and the tale is but the excuse.
