Archery Club To Start Shoots Soon
At a general meeting of the Whakatane Archery Club at the County Council Chambers on Wednesday evening there was a full attendance of members. Rules were finalised, and the following officers were elected:—
Patron, Mr B. S. Barry; president, Mr H. D. London; vice-presidents, Messrs A. G. Stenhouse, R. Stokes and J. Dickson; secretary-treasurer, Mr J. D. Hunter; field captain, Mr A. M. Hunter; deputy field captain, Mr L. Fischer; lady paramount, Mrs J. Lynds; committee, Mesdames M. Stokes and N. Henry, Messrs G. McConnachie, J. A. Busby, D. Dahl, C. T. Ramson; auditor, Mr J. Duthie; social committee, Mesdames Henry, Stokes, Lyns, D. Dawson, R. Biggins and Mr Stokes; trustees, Mrs Hunter and . Messrs London and A. C. Stenhouse.
The meeting decided to hold the shoots at the Winter Show Buildings on Monday nights, and a working bee* is to be held there on May 16 in order to prepare equipment.
The Interim Committee that two bows and, necessary ar rows had been purchased for training purposes, and th,ese will be in use as soon as the targets and ample screens etc. are completed. The president reported that the ladies of the Opotiki Club had donated an iced cake for competition within the club and a . vote of thanks was accorded to the bpotiki Archery Club. Designs for a club badge were submitted to the meeting, and i,t was unanimously decided to select a badge incorporating the Pohaturoa Rock as a central motif in view of its traditional association with Whakatane.
