Exemption From Closing Exemption from closing on Saturday’s for one and a half hours, from 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m., was granted the Tuhoe Co-op. Society (Ruatoki) Ltd., Ruatoki, and Geoffrey Ingram Middlemas, storekeeper, Ruatoki, by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., at Whakatane yesterday. Whakatane Deaths Increase Compared with tl.e first four months of last year births at Whakatane from January 1 to April 30 of this year have decreased by 12, from 95 to 83, according to figures from the Clerk of the Court at Whakatane. Marriages have gone up by one, 25 to 26, and there is a big increase in deaths, the number being doubled from the previous year, 12 to 25. Judgments By Default Judgment was given for plaintiff by default by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., at Whakatane yesterday, in the following civil claims: C. A. Timbs and Sons, Whakatane, v Charles Edward Wharton, Whakatane, £4 17s 6d, costs £1 11s; Ruff Bros. Ltd., Waimana, v A. E. Hincho, farmer, Coromandel, £8 13s 6d, costs 15s. On a judgment summons, A. Hanson, Taneatua, was ordered to pay R. A. Hughes, Cambridge, £3 5s 4d, and costs, in default 3 days’ gaol. Waikato Ale Agency By advertisement in this issue, Waikato Breweries Lt. announce the appointment of Mr Selwyn G. Hirst, of the Bay of Plenty Wine Company, as their district representative, authorised to accept orders on their behalf for their popular ales and stout. Since 1887 the firm that owns the Waikato Brewery has been widely known and highly praised for its production of quality beverages. Now equipped with plant as modern as any in the country, they aim to cater for all requirements, even to briging back'the days of the “demijohn” and pint bottles.
