Lights On Vehicles Are To Be Checked

A Dominion-wide check on headlights, tail-lights and equipment on bicycles will begin on Friday by the Transport Department.

In a statement advising motorists to ensure that all lighting apparatus on vehicles is put in good order before the drive commences, the department included a warning to cyclists, reminding them that the regulations concerning lighting must be adhered to. Prosecutions would follow breaches.

Most accidents with bicycles occurred during the winter, and adequate lighting was essential. A red reflector in a white-painted area, a bell and an effective brake on the rear wheel were also necessary.
