WHAKATANE SWIMMING CLUB
The Swimming Club held a very successful end of season rally on a recent afternoon in the school grounds adjacent to the swimming pool. There was a large attendance of club members and a number of parents. A demonstration of swimming was given by several children in-both the learners’ and the advanc- ■ ed classes, and parents were able to H see the scope of the work carried ™ out by the instructors. , The Club President, Mr J. S. Slipper, pointed out to those ' present that the club had commenced the season with 20 members and now there were 160 on the roll and it was estimated that fully half of 4 those children had been taught to swim, while a number. who could already swim had been greatly improved. The Crawl Stroke had been taught from the beginning and great progress had been made by some children..
Special thanks to the small band of instructors who gave up their time each Saturday afternoon and to the special classes on Saturday mornings.
