WAGE INCREASES
Sir, —It was with particular interest that I read Mr Nash’s statements at the meeting of the Auckland Trades Council (March 3, 1949). Mr Nash said:
.1 am as keen as any person can be to lift those on the lower levels.' I want to get more money for the general labourer! And improve the position of those on low incomes. If there is a way of giving a greater share of the national (dividend) income to the worker under the present economic system I want to help lo do it. Apparently he is 7 ost in the maze of international economics. When' ne learns to rec ace costs to the pro-ducer-consumer, he will solve tee problem of present day ecohomics. There is such a thing as subsidising the consumer through the producer. If the producer sells an article at £1 and the Government says, sell at-15/- and I will pay you the exira 5/- in a subsidy from the Treasury (free money on presenting your sales notes) the consumers costs are then a reduction on the cost of living!" Thus, the wage earner rises his purchasing power without rising the cost of living. Note: Every one gets a rise in their purchasing power! And every one will get their fair share in the National Dividend.. Naturally more production produces more dividends. So why not more dividends from the peoples bank! Production; Mr Nash? And cut out the Sal 2S Tax for a start. Y->urs etc-. W. BRADSHAW.
